Welcome to the Canton Marathon 2012 PREMIER Training Program! The program is geared for runners and walkers of all abilities and paces training for the Inaugural Canton Marathon’s full marathon or half marathon races taking place on June 17, 2012. The 18-week training program has been created by Matt Sidel, Canton Marathon’s Premier Training Program Director and sales associate at Second Sole. Mercy Medical Canton Marathon FREE Training Program
The Mercy Medical Center Canton Marathon Running Club’s Spring Training Program starts on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 8:00 AM and meets every Saturday morning until June 9th. The program is free and geared toward runners and walkers of all abilities training for the Canton Marathon, the Five-Person Marathon Team Relay, Half Marathon or 10K Race. The inaugural Canton Marathon is set for June 17, 2012.

The weekly training program has been created by Matt Sidel, Running Club Director and sales associate at Second Sole. Bob Fay from Second Sole will be the weekly volunteer training leader and Eldon Jones, Director of Sports Medicine, Health & Fitness at Mercy Medical Center, will serve as the volunteer advisor for the training program. Mercy Medical Center is the sponsor of the Canton Marathon Running Club and a signature sponsor of the Canton Marathon.
WHEN: All training sessions will be held on SATURDAYS at 8:00 a.m. The primary meeting location will be at the steps at the entrance to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. The group will also meet on selected Saturdays at the Mercy Health Center of North Canton. The weekly training sessions will start with a short welcome followed by a practice run or walk of various distances at your training pace. Participants can come to all of the sessions or pick and choose from any Saturday. Speed is not the point! Training to run or walk the distance you want to enter at your pace is what the program will emphasize.
TRAINING PROGRAM DATES: The first session will be on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at 8:00 a.m. at The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Meet at 8:00 a.m. on the front steps at the entrance to the building and dress warm. The group will meet every Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. The final training session will be on Saturday, June 9, the week before the Inaugural 2012 Canton Marathon.
WEEKLY UPDATES ON TRAINING LOCATIONS: Meeting locations are subject to change. Full information, including locations, will be posted weekly on the Canton Marathon Facebook page and on the Canton Marathon Web site on the Training page. In the event of severe weather, meetings may be scheduled at alternate locations or cancelled. All participants must sign a waiver prior to participation and must sign in on the roster each week. You do not have to be a member of the Canton Marathon Running Club to participate.

All participants in the Canton Marathon Training Program must submit this signed waiver form and sign in each week.
